Regarding bigotry in the store

Parallax does not tolerate any racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, sexism, or bigotry of any kind. There will be no more warnings, you will just be told to leave. There is no debate, no argument, nothing. Last year someone made racist ‘jokes’ and we gave them many opportunities to stop and apologize. They, instead, chose to be cold, callous, and adversarial about it. They were banned. We continue to hear homophobic, transphobic, and racist ‘jokes’ or comments and we’re really very tired of it. If you think that me taking this stance is in any way controversial then Parallax is not a place for you. If you have any questions on this please come and talk to me, but this is not open for a debate, these are our policies.

I’m tired

You have probably seen our mission statement if you’re on this website since its literally the first thing on the front page. I take that very seriously. We are an inclusive place. We want people to feel welcome and wanted and comfortable in our business. What you may think is an accepted term might not be. Because we live in a pretty homogeneous place of mostly cisgender white people, we don’t often get a clear picture of what is acceptable on a wider scale. That is not an excuse for any behavior. If you say something or do something that is unacceptable the staff are going to let you know. If you argue, you are going to get thrown out. That is what happened last Tuesday.

I also didn’t want to say this

If you think that all speech should be totally unfiltered all the time, you’re a liar and a hypocrite. You alter your speech all the time based on where you are and who you are with. Language changes on a constant basis and if you don’t understand that help yourself to an English 101 textbook because you’re an idiot. Even the word “meme” doesn’t really have its original meaning anymore. I highly encourage you to watch the whole video. It’s not only informative, it’s entertaining. It is a tish bit NSFW because of language. If you can’t figure out what and why it is not allowed to be said after you watch that video come on into the store and I’ll hit you on the head with a tack hammer.

If you got offended when I told you I’m smarter than you because your a bigot, well this is the time to redeem yourself. You’re smarter than people give you credit for. Educate yourself and be a better person. I know for a fact that most people are inherently good people who may just be ignorant or ill-informed.
