We have become aware of an eBay scam where unknown accounts are selling counterfeit collectibles, then using the Parallax Games name and business address for the return address when customers open a dispute. A couple weeks ago, we started receiving mail from around the country from customers we have not had any transactions or communications with through any of our official channels or accounts. Puzzled by the first couple of envelopes, we opened them and saw what were obvious counterfeits of high value Pokemon cards, but with little to no information to go off of otherwise. Through contact with one of the victims of this scam, we have confirmed that there was at least one eBay account using our name and address for the return info, but has since been closed. We have informed the USPS of this and we are either collecting the packages we receive as evidence for any potential law enforcement investigation, or refusing them outright. To further attempt to curtail scalping, we will be slicing and removing the plastic wrapping or otherwise breaking the seals on the majority of sealed TCG products in store at the time of purchase. Some packs with significantly higher market prices compared to retail, including but not limited to The Hobbit Collector Boosters, will have to have a corner of the pack clipped off at the time of sale to prevent resale. Purchase of certain products including but not limited to the highly anticipated Pokemon 30th Anniversary set may require the opening of product within the store to guarantee no reselling of the set. Our priority as a local game store is to guarantee fair purchasing opportunities for as many members of the community as possible, and these policies are in place to reflect these priorities.
